COMMUNITY IMPACT OPPORTUNITIES

When the Social Committee for New Longview subdivision gathered to brainstorm their annual calendar, a handful of community traditions quickly formed a skeletal framework.  But this committee wanted to approach their task from a fresh angle.  They wanted to create something meaningful.

Wonderfully laid out, this neighborhood, like it’s inspiration, Seaside, Florida, is centered around natural beauty: picturesque homes wrapped around central green space, nestled beside reserved parkland from the original Long family farm and graciously built along the waterfront of a private pond.  It is, in the best sense, a planned community, but that’s not what makes this community remarkable.  People make a neighborhood.  And this neighborhood has heart.

Shannon Foudray Yeates announced on the New Longview Facebook Page, “…NLV Social Committee will be aligning community impact opportunities with each of our social events! These opportunities are directly tied to causes and individuals within our NLV community!”  The response was overwhelmingly supportive.

New Longview Community Impact Opportunities was initiated, and Meals on Wheels of Lee’s Summit was the first nonprofit recipient from generous attendees at NLV Trivia Night.  Meals on Wheels of Lee’s Summit President Susie Newsam reflected on hearing about New Longview’s initiative.  “We continue to be humbled by the generosity and compassion that the people in the Lee’s Summit community have for the mission of Meals on Wheels.  This wonderful idea brings neighbors together for a good cause.  People have passion, they want to make a difference whether it’s monetarily or donating their time.  I think this sets a precedent of something new and exciting that subdivisions can do to support the greater Lee’s Summit community.”
